Death of a Salesman is running for ten weeks starting on May 9 until July 18, 2015.
Death of a Salesman
Following critical acclaim in Stratford-upon-Avon, where it was described as “superlative”, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Death of a Salesman is playing at the Noel Coward Theatre.
The entire original cast from Stratford is playing at the West End, including Antony Sheer as Willy Loman, Harriet Walter as Linda Loman, and Alex Hassell and Sam Marks as Willy and Linda’s two sons, Buff and Happy.
The production marks the centenary of Arthur Miller’s birth. Miller’s play premiered on Broadway in 1949. The play about an aging salesman on the verge of a nervous breakdown, was the recipient of the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.
The RSC’s artistic director Gregory Doran, who is the director of the production, says that Death of a Salesman is “without doubt” the greatest American play of the 20th century and it takes a “rightful place” alongside Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Doran also said he was delighted they are able to “share this production with London audiences at the Noel Coward Theatre.”
