Guys & Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. When it first opened on Broadway in 1950, the musical ran for 1,200 performances and received a throng of great reviews.
The popular musical also won a number of prestigious awards, including Olivier Awards, Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards.
Guys & Dolls was lifted to global renown when it was made into a musical movie in 1958, starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.
Since its popularity in the 1950s, the musical has been regularly revived, routinely attracting all-star casts. In 2005, Guys & Dolls came to the Picadilly Theatre with a celebrity cast including Ewan McGregor, Patrick Swayze and Jane Krakowski.
This romantic comedy is set in New York where gambler Nathan Detroit attempts to find the money to set up a big game of Craps. But Nathan requires $1,000 to pay the owner of a garage to host the game. Desperate for the cash, Detroit bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson that he cannot get the straight-laced Sarah Brown on a date.
Meanwhile Detroit’s long-term girlfriend wants her man to become legitimate and marry her.
A new production of the much-loved romantic comedy musical is running at the Savoy Theatre from December 2015.
