Following a string of great reviews with critics praising both the play and the performances at its world premiere at the Royal Court, Hangmen is showing at the Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End.
The play is directed by Matthew Dunster and is set in a small pub in Oldham in 1964 in the wake of the outlawing of capital punishment in England. The plot is centred on Harry who is something of a local celebrity, described as being the “second-best hangman in England.” How will Harry react to the news that hanging has been abolished, the locals want to know?
David Morrissey and Johnny Flynn are both starring in what has been described by The Guardian as “a compelling evening” of entertainment.
The West End production of Hangmen is produced by Robert Fox and Matthew Byam Shaw for Playful Productions and the Royal Court Theatre Productions. Hangmen is directed by Matthew Dunster, features design by Anna Fleischle, sound by Ian Dickinson and lighting by Joshua Carr.
