In celebration of 100 years since the first production of Hobson’s Choice was staged, Harold Brighouse’s much-loved comedy is coming to the West End, showing at the Vaudeville Theatre this summer.
The plot revolves round the self-made shopkeeper, Henry Horatio Hobson, a skinflint, boozer and tyrant to his daughters. When his eldest daughter Maggie won’t give Hobson her blessing to marry his bootmaker, a battle of wills surfaces, in which Hobson stands to lose his daughters, his customers and his pride.
Martin Shaw is starring in the production. Well-known for his TV appearances on The Professionals, Judge John Deed and George Gently, Martin Shaw is one of Britain’s favourite actors. Joining the much-admired actor Martin Shaw on stage is Naomi Frederick, Gabrielle Dempsey, Bryan Dick and Joanna McCallum.
Hobson’s Choice is directed by Jonathan Church, Artistic Director at the Chichester festival Theatre.
