The Full Monty is a new comedy drama based on the Oscar-winning film of 1997. The original screenplay was written by Simon Beaufoy and now he returns to his work, adapting it for the West End stage. The film took the world by storm; becoming one of the most successful British films of all time.
The Full Monty is a comedy-drama and tells the story of six out-of-work Sheffield steelworkers, who decide to form a male striptease act along the lines of The Chippendales. They are trying to raise funds for the main character, Gaz, who has separated from his wife, to be able to see his son and spend their time together better. Gaz declares that their show will be better than the Chippendales because they will go “the full monty” — strip all the way.
Despite being a comedy, the story also has poignant moments and reflects on a variety of issues including unemployment, fathers’ rights, depression, impotence, homosexuality, obesity, working class culture and suicide. However, there are still plenty of laughs.
The show is being brought to London by hugely successful producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, together with an exciting creative team that they have assembled, including multi Olivier award-winning director, Daniel Evans, set and costume designer Robert Jones, lighting designer Tim Lutkin and multi award-winning choreographer, Steven Hoggett.
