Top advice for first time London theatregoers

What to do and what not to do when seeing your first London show.

discount Wicked tickets

If you’re planning a brilliant night out and have invested in some discount tickets for Wicked London, but have never been to the theatre before, then there are a few things you should bear in mind before you go – not least of all, remembering to turn your mobile phone off or put it on silent when the curtain rises. You certainly don’t want lots of fellow audience members turning around to glare at you if it goes off at an inopportune moment!

Another factor to consider when heading off for a night at the theatre is what clothes to wear. Of course, it does depend on what you’re going to see and who you’re with as to what sort of dress to opt for – for a show like Wicked, which is lots of fun, there is little need to dress up particularly smartly, but you might still want to make the effort if you’re going with that special someone. Or you could take a leaf out of The Rocky Horror Show’s book and think about running with the theme – you’re sure to get lots of compliments if you have a witch’s hat fascinator at a jaunty angle on your head, or if you climb the stairs to your seats in a pair of ruby red slippers.

Think about the time of day as well – if you’re attending a show at the weekend, formal attire could be more appropriate, and for first nights you should try and make sure you’re smart (although comfortable as well). And you should perhaps always remember to bring a cardigan, wrap or light jacket as it can get a bit chilly in the theatre.
