The Scottsboro Boys Show description
 
Following a sold out run at the Young Vic in London, the critically acclaimed The Scottsboro Boys transferred to the Garrick Theatre in the heart of the West End for a strictly limited season from Saturday 4th October 2014 to Saturday 21st February 2015.
 
 
This new show in London has been nominated for 6 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and winner of the Critics’ Circle Best Musical Award 2013 this is also the final collaboration of legendary composing duo Kander and Ebb responsible for the hit musicals Chicago and Cabaret. The show in London is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman, whose previous credits include the hugely successful musical, The Producers.
 
The Scottsboro Boys is a musical based on the Scottsboro Boys trial. The show received an amazing twelve Tony Award nominations in May 2011.
 
As she is waiting for a bus, a lady lifts a corner of a cake box she’s holding. As it brings back memories, the scene around her fades away, and the minstrels arrive. The host of the Minstrel Show, introduces the players in the troupe, and then begins the story of the Scottsboro Boys…
 
Its 1931, a young boy, one of the nine boys at a train station, the train stops two runaway girls jump out and events begin to unfold. The girls subsequently accuse the boys of rape and the boys are sent to jail. Without a good lawyer the boys are found guilty and are sentenced to death. The youngest has nightmares and awaiting execution the boys think only about going home. Just as the executions are about to begin, there is a surprising revelation, however a year later they are still in prison and this story examines their trials, anxieties and what really happened.
 
The finale fades back to the bus stop, just as the bus arrives in both a poignant and revelatory moment.
