Daytona show description
Maureen Lipman, Harry Shearer and Oliver Cotton star in the West End Premiere of Oliver Cotton’s play Daytona at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited run of just 8 weeks from 28th June 2014 to the 23rd August 2014 following it’s sell out run at the Park theatre.
Daytona is a play with not one but two love stories at its heart, that is gripping, funny, poignant and full of mystery. The play is set in New York in 1986, Joe and Elli, a couple for nearly fifty years, share a love of ballroom dancing and are practising their routines for their next big competition. Despite constantly bickering it is clear that they truly love one another. Then one night, out of the blue, Joe’s long-lost brother Billy bursts back into their lives with an extraordinary story to tell.
The show in London is directed by David Grindley.
Renown stage and screen actress Maureen Lipman stars as Elli. Maureen is a true West End star with numerous theatrical credits to her name.
Making his West End stage debut as Joe is Harry Shearer, who has provided character voices for The Simpsons since it began in 1987, most notably as Mr Burns, Principle Skinner and Ned Flanders. He co-created, co-wrote and co-starred as bassist Derek Smalls in the 1984 mockumentary ‘This is Spinal Tap’.
T.V. and theatre writer Oliver Cotton stars as Billy.
