The Boyzone star and solo artist will play Guy, a charismatic busker from Dublin. Keating will star alongside the California-born actress Jill Winternitz. Keating will join the Once cast on 17 November 2014 and will remain with the awarding-winning production until the end of its West End run. On March 21 2015 Once will make its final appearance at the Phoenix Theatre and will subsequently embark on a European tour.

A much-loved, award-winning show

Once opened in the West End in April 2013. The much-admired celebration of friendship, love and Irish music won the 2014 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. On Broadway, the show won eight Tony Awards.

This inspiring story traces an unlikely encounter between a girl and boy from very different backgrounds but who have a mutual love for music and song writing. This shared passion spawns an intense attraction and an unexpected romance unravels.

The “perfect” role for Ronan Keating

Featuring a charming mix of acoustic love songs and traditional Irish music, it could be said that Ronan Keating was made to be part of this electrifying musical.

In fact Ronan Keating himself describes the role as “perfect”. Though, being his West End debut, the Irish singer admitted he is a little nervous. Talking to the BBC about making his West End debut playing Guy in Once, Ronan Keating said:

“But as exciting as that is, it’s a little scary too. I’ve never performed on the West End and this is a huge challenge and commitment.”

The Irish star’s subliminal musical career has been intensely followed by fans around the world. With the legendary boy band Boyzone the singer sold more than 25 million records across the globe. As a solo artist Keating has sold more than 20 million worldwide.

Prior to Ronan Keating taking over next month, David Hunter will continue the role as Guy until 15 November 2014.
