On Sunday 12 April 2015 the prestigious Olivier Awards 2015 with MasterCard were presented at The Royal Opera House in London.

Wicked, which is now the tenth longest-running show in the West End, picked up the highly-esteemed This Morning Audience Award.

The acclaimed musical, which tells a magical tale about the Witches of Oz and the intense friendship between two sorcery students, has been seen by more than 6.5 million people in the West End alone.

What has been dubbed as “one of the greatest musicals of our time” recently played its landmark 3500th performance.

Broadway’s biggest blockbuster

Further afield the “big-hearted musical bonanza” has been watched by 47 million people in 13 different countries around the world. After running for almost 12 years at the Gershwin Theatre, Wicked remains, as The New York Times stated “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster.”

The spectacular show has picked up 100 international awards, including the Olivier Audience Award in 2010.

Talking of their elation of winning the highly sought-after This Morning Audience Award, Michael McCabe, Wicked’s UK executive producer said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been honoured in this way by the theatregoing public. We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us and send a huge debt of gratitude to our extraordinary cast, musicians and company at the Apollo Victoria Theatre for their passionate and tireless commitment to Wicked.”

The Apollo Victoria Theatre production of Wicked currently stars Emma Hatton as Elphaba, Savannah Stevenson as Glinda and Jeremy Taylor as Fiyero. The West End musical hit has music by the Academy Award and multi Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz.
