It has been confirmed that the musical adaptation of The War of the Worlds will be making its West End debut in February next year

The spectacular musical adaptation of one of the greatest sci-fi stories is coming to London

Jeff Wayne’s innovative new production is coming to the Dominion Theatre in February 2016. The musical is based on HG Wells’ much-loved science-fiction novel, which was first published in 1898.

Directed by Bob Tomson, produced by Bill Kenwright and adapted by Doreen Wayne, this musical version of The War of the Worlds will include new music and a star cast, which has yet to be announced.

As well as a star-studded cast, the spectacular production features innovative technology, including special effects, video walls and, in 3D holography, Liam Neeson as The Journalist, who retells his experiences in the late 19th century of possible alien encounters.

The War of the Worlds depicts a compelling story of Earth being invaded by ruthless aliens from Mars. As well as having superior intelligence, the Martians are armed with incredible machinery and shattering weapons.

H.G. Wells’ gripping novel is widely viewed as being the inspiration for science fiction writers in the ensuing decades.

In 1978 Jeff Wayne introduced a concept album which retells the story of The War of the Worlds. Having sold more than 15 million copies around the world and having spent 330 weeks in the UK album charts to date, Jeff Wayne’s concept album went on to be one of the best-selling and ground-breaking musical works of all time.

The musical production features the classic score, which is performed live on stage and is conducted by Jeff Wayne himself.

The West End debut of The War of the Worlds is showing at the Dominion Theatre for a limited period from February 08 – April 10, 2016.
