Charing Cross Theatre
Charing Cross Theatre is situated underneath The Arches on Villiers Street, below London Charing Cross Station. Described as a ‘hidden gem’ of a theatre venue, the Charing Cross Theatre is located in a former famous Victorian music hall, which was host to a large number of pantomimes, musicals and dramas.
The theatre is conveniently located with unimpeded access from both Embankment and the Strand into its foyer. Comprising of a 265 seater auditorium, Charing Cross Theatre is one of the smallest theatres in the West End.
Formerly the New Players Theatre, the theatre was founded in 1936 and once occupied several different sites across the West End before committing to its current site under The Arches. It is proud to be one of London’s only surviving music halls.
Part of the Charing Cross redevelopment project to meet the aspirations of both national and international producers, seeking an intimate theatre venue resonant of an ‘Off-Broadway’ space, the theatre was rebuilt in 1989.
This atmospheric and characterful venue is accompanied with a restaurant and a bar known as the Players Bar and Kitchen. The bar as a late licence and is open until 2.30am and offers an award-winning pre-theatre menu that has been meticulously created by the head chef.
As well as delicious food, visitors can enjoy soaking in the atmosphere of an original Victorian architecture, including beautiful glass panelling.
Today Charing Cross Theatre still offers a diverse programme of theatre, arts and entertainment, combining musicals, drama, cabaret, comedy, fashion shows, music gigs and late night shows.
