Show Description – Nell Gwynn

Following a sell-out run that was met with much acclaim at the Shakespeare’s Globe, Jessica Swale’s highly entertaining comedy is showing at the West End.

Award-winning actress Gemma Arterton is playing the title role of Nell Gwynn, a charming, cheeky lady who was one of the first women to appear on a London stage.

The acclaimed play is set in 1660 when Charles II had been restored to the throne. The plot is centred on Nell Gwynn who rises from humble roots selling oranges for sixpence to the UK’s most celebrated actresses, winning the adoration not only of the public but of the King.

Nell Gwynn is directed by Christopher Luscombe. The play has earned a series of great reviews, described as “Bawdy, playful, highly entertaining” by The Observer and as “A delightful, joyous evening” by the Financial Times.
