Daniel Evans’ critically-acclaimed production of the ground-breaking musical Show Boat is back in the West End, for the first time in almost 20 years.
The epic musical is set at the turn of the 20th century, against the backdrop of America’s Deep South. Featuring music by Jerome Kern and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Show Boat tells a compelling story of loyalty, freedom and love, across three generations aboard a show boat, which makes its way down the Mississippi River.
When Show Boat premiered on Broadway in 1927 it was said to have changed musical theatre forever. This lavish new production of the classic musical, which met great acclaim when it opened at the Sheffield Crucible in December 2015, proves just how timeless and enduring the musical is.
