Celebrating ten years at the Apollo Victoria Theatre

To mark the ten-year anniversary of the much-loved musical showing on the West End, theatre owner ATG has completely refurbished the auditorium of the Apollo Victoria Theatre. This stunning celebratory refurbishment, includes the seats and carpets in the Apollo Victoria Theatre being replaced with designs that replicate the original design of the theatre when it opened in 1930 and was known as the New Victoria Cinema.

Having been seen by just short of a whopping eight million people in London alone and employing over 1600 people, Wicked has justifiably earned the accolade as being “one of the most popular West End musicals ever,” during its decade-long spotlight at the West End’s iconic Apollo Victoria Theatre.

This absorbing untold tale of the Witches of Oz has enjoyed a whole host of incredible milestones and achievements, including already being the eighth longest-running show currently playing on the West End. Furthermore, on Saturday November 12, 2016, Wicked will surpass the original production of Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and become the 18th longest-running show in the history of West End theatre – what an achievement!

A record-breaking musical

And that’s not all! On the week ending the 1st of January, 2011, Wicked was the first show in West End history to gross over £1,000,000 in a single week. Due to its intense popularity and longevity, Wicked has managed to break its own record numerous times, with the most recent box office record being set on the week ending January 2nd, 2016.

The internationally-acclaimed Wicked has also raised almost £1 million for charities via its FOR GOOD programme, including planting some 35,000 trees for the Woodland Trust.

Winner of numerous prestigious awards

Wicked has won a string of prestigious awards, including two Olivier Awards, nine WhatsOnStage Awards, an Evening Standard Theatre Award and a Visit London Gold Award, not to mention more than 100 other awards around the world!

The Wicked Tour to return

In February 2018, the multi record-breaking UK and Ireland Tour of Wicked will return, opening at the Bristol Hippodrome.

Speaking of the remarkable success of the musical, Michael McCabe, Wicked’s Executive Producer, said:

“On behalf of Marc Platt, David Stone, Universal Stage Productions and all of the producers, I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all of our casts, musicians and production staff who have worked so tirelessly, and with such diligence and dedication, in helping to achieve this incredible milestone. It continues to be an absolute privilege to work with so many exceptionally talented individuals and companies and we couldn’t be more proud of, and grateful to, every single one of you. And to our audiences, who have so passionately supported and championed Wicked over the past decade, we offer our deepest gratitude.”
