David Walliams’ best-selling children’s book Gangsta Granny is reinvented for the stage, playing at the Garrick Theatre in the summer of 2017

Gangsta Granny tiptoes into the Garrick Theatre next year

Produced, adapted and directed by Neal Foster and the Birmingham Stage Company, producer of the much-acclaimed Horrible Histories, Gangsta Granny, like Walliams’ hit book, promises to enthral both children and adults alike.

As the other kids are kicking footballs around outside, poor young Ben is forced to spend Friday nights with his cabbage-reeking, scrabble-playing granny. Just when he thought Friday nights couldn’t get more boring, Ben discovers a secret, a great big shiny secret in fact, which takes him on an exciting journey with his incredible gangsta granny!

Joining the Gangsta Granny cast will be Neal Foster himself, Gilly Tompkins, Ashley Cousins, Benedict Martin, Louise Bailey, Liz Garland, Devesh Kilshore, Sophie Gibbs and Richard James.

The show features lighting by Jason Taylor, design by Jackie Trousdale, music by Jak Poore, sound by Nick Sagar and choreography by Paul Chantry and Rae Piper of Chantry Dance Company.

Sharing his excitement of his much-loved story arriving on the West End, author David Walliams said:

“I’m delighted that my Gangsta Granny is making her West End debut. It’s my most popular book and it will be wonderful to see the Birmingham Stage Company’s terrific adaptation in dazzling neon next summer.”

Gangsta Granny is showing at the Garrick Theatre from 1 August, 2017 until 3 September 2017, following an extensive tour in the UK.

The show runs for two hours and ten minutes and includes one interval. Gangsta Granny is suitable for ages five and above.
