Elevating musical Dirty Dancing flies into the West End this Christmas
Dirty Dancing is currently touring the UK, and is due to open at the Phoenix Theatre on December 6, 2016. The production originally opened in Rome in July 2015.
Lewis Griffiths currently stars in the musical as Johnny Castle, alongside Katie Hartland as Baby Houseman and Carlie Milner as Penny Johnson.
The musical is based on the hit film from 1987, which starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. The American romantic drama became a huge box office hit, which, as of 2009, had earned more than $214 million globally.
The soundtrack to the film enjoyed similar acclaim. Created by Jimmy Lenner, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack generated numerous hit singles and two multi-platinum albums. ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’ won the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, as well as a Grammy Award for best duet.
This uplifting musical features many of the classic songs from the soundtrack, including ‘Hey! Baby’, ‘Hungry Eyes’, ‘Do You Love Me?’ and, of course, the multi-award winning ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.
The production is directed by Federico Bellone, has choreography by Gillian Bruce and design by Roberto Comotti.
Dirty Dancing is showing at the Phoenix Theatre throughout the Christmas period, from 6 – 31 December, 2016.
