As a testament to its anticipated popularity, even Andrew Lloyd-Webber, the world-famous producer, has backed the Spice Girls musical Viva Forever!, giving the Spice Girls’ musical ambition his seal of approval even before opening night.
The musicals guru said writer Jennifer Saunders had given him the inside track on their Viva Forever! stage show and he reckons it’s a winner.
Andrew Lloyd-Webber said: ‘I’ve known Jennifer for years. She’s shown me parts of it and it looks terrific. It’s really difficult to get the right formula in translating pop hits into the right stage show. There were several attempts to make Abba the musical before Judy Craymer finally nailed it with Mamma Mia!’
He said the London show had been given extra ammunition for success after hailing Mel C’s musical credentials.
So much so, the 64-year-old Cats composer has hired Sporty, Mel C as a judge for the new ITV show Superstar, which is helping Lloyd-Webber find a new star for his Jesus Christ Superstar arena tour. ‘She was great in Blood Brothers,’ he said.
Mel C will be joined on the TV panel by Jason Donovan and Dawn French.
Mel C has warned the hopefuls of randy Dawn. She said: ‘I wonder if she’s going to snog all the Jesuses?! It’s going to be fun to see her in action.’
Spice Girls Mel B, Mel C, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham reunited to launch Viva Forever! at the Renaissance Hotel in London’s King Cross, where they filmed their very first video shoot.
This new London show, Viva Forever! promises to be a spicy cocktail of the greatest hits of the spice girls and is bound to get the audience off their feet!
