The captivting musical is to run until June 2016 

The record-breaking stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s iconic tale of Charlie’s ventures into the eccentric Willy Wonka’s famous Chocolate Factory will be extending its run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

A new booking period will go on sale on February 9, 2015.

Setting new records

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has set new records for weekly attendance and takings at the box office, breaking the record for the highest weekly gross sales at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a third time.

In the week commencing December 29, 2014, the astounding musical took more than £1.1 million. The Theatre Royal Drury Lane’s 2,200 seat theatre, which is one of the largest auditoriums in the West End, was completely full for each performance during the record-breaking week.

Celebrating its 700 performance in London

On Saturday 24 January 2015, the show celebrated its 700th performance in the West End.

The story of Charlie Bucket and the eccentric chocolate maker Willy Wonka is brought to life by the Academy Award winning director Sam Mendes.

The show features incredible stagecraft and its mystery and magic is heightened by lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, music by Marc Shaiman and a book by the award-winning playwright and adaptor David Greig. Set and costume designs are by Mark Thompson and choreography by Peter Darling.

‘The Musical That Blew My Mind’

This hugely popular performance of a tale comprising of peculiar Oompa-Loompas, which has been entrancing readers worldwide for almost 50 years, won the Olivier Awards for Best Lighting Design and Best Costume Design.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also won the Mousetrap Awards for ‘The Musical That Blew My Mind.’
