Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the new musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be opening at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, previewing from the 18th May 2013 with the World Premiere Gala night on the 25th June 2013.
Tickets are now on sale and booking through to the 30th November 2013.
The Theatre Royal Drury Lane have renamed the theatre areas for this venue, so the order is now as below:
- Stalls – ground floor
- Royal Circle – First tier
- Grand Circle – Second tier, formerly the Upper Circle
- Balcony – Third tier
The best seats are stalls about half-way back. Great value seats can be found in the Grand circle the third row is probably best. And if you are looking for a real bargain the balcony seats are as cheap as chips, you are very high up but with the acoustics at this wonderful old theatre you can hear and still see everything.
The ultimate candyman is re-imagined for the stage
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s magical book being published; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The fantastical tale follows a young and impoverished Charlie Bucket, who lucks into winning one of the prized golden tickets and is propelled into the surreal and wonderful world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Bursting with Dahl’s signature style and imagination, the factory entrances it’s visitors with a chocolate waterfall, the strange-looking but wise Oompa Loompas and their mystical and cheeky songs, glass elevators, trained squirrels and everlasting gobstoppers.
Sam Mendes, who directs the production, is said to have been enthralled by the story whilst reading it to his children and eagerly put himself forward for the role. The whole team are real lovers of the book and have vowed to stay true to the original plot and characters, which will include the delightfully nasty children and their resulting comeuppances. The show is therefore, set to be a musical not only for children but for adults as well.
