Brian May and his team working hard on WWRYII?

“Yes, the news is leakily out there. We did it! We workshopped the SEEK !! WWRY II – TSMGO !!!” Brian May said on his soapbox.

For those unaware of the internet acronyms May used, we’ve decoded the abbreviations for you. ‘SEEK’ means ‘The Sequel’, ‘WWRY’ – ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘TSMGO’ – ‘The Show Must Go On.’

The seed is sown

Talking about the ‘seed being sown’, Brian May continued that the so-called ‘sequel’ has been workshopped to “great acclaim in a tiny room in Belsize Park…”. According to Queen’s lead guitarist after just two weeks of insanely intense 24/7 work, a sequel to We Will Rock You has been born.

“My thanks to all for the passion that everyone put in… it was I wonderful ride. I was very proud of this compact but very powerful team.

Onwards!”, wrote May.

Big shoes to fill

A sequel to We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre would of course have big shoes to fill. In May 2012 the musical celebrated its tenth birthday at the Dominion. Having enjoyed more than a decade of prime West End theatre limelight, this vibrant show has nurtured great reviews and sold a phenomenal amount of tickets. Ben Elton’s musical is in fact the longest-running show ever to have been staged at the London Dominion Theatre and the ninth longest-running show in the West End.

Goodbye everybody we’ve got to go

After its pulsating reign where it has neither wavered in popularity nor prestige, WWRY is ending on 31 May 2014. Naturally any show following such a popular and long-standing one has a lot to live up to. WWRY II would certainly be an appropriate choice. News that Queen-related entertainment is remaining in the limelight is naturally exciting fans. As one Queen enthusiast wrote on Queen Zone in response to Brian May’s announcement:

“It’s nice to see more evidence that the Queen machine is strongly moving forward.”

Remember where you heard the news first and watch this space – A sequel to We Will Rock You looks extremely likely to be making its way to the Dominion Theatre.

Meanwhile you can still buy tickets to see Ben Elton’s We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre.
