As I am sure you are aware, us here at Shows in London are very excited about the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical and I am sure you share our excitement! That is why we feel the need to inform you of the release of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Official Teaser Trailer.
The trailer begins with someone wearing white gloves setting up a stage, while people on the street look in awe as the Theatre Royal Drury Lane starts glowing and pumping purple smoke. The glowing continues until suddenly golden tickets explode from the chimneys. A chocolate bar appears on the screen with the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory logo on it while a voiceover exclaims: “Every ticket is golden. Book now.”
The new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s much loved classic is to be directed by Sam Mendes, who recently turned down the offer of directing the next James Bond film after his smash hit success with Skyfall. He turned this down to focus on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so you can be sure this is going to be an exquisite show.
In an interview Mendes told Empire: “It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie. Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.”
The casting for Willy Wonka will be Douglas Hodge, with other cast members including Clive Carter, Jasna Ivir, Iris Roberts and Nigel Planer.
