Reaching a record-breaking longevity status at the West End
Now in its eighth year at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, Wicked needs little introduction. Telling a compelling and untold story about the Witches of Oz the fascinating show has been enjoyed by more than 5.5 million people since it premiered in London in 2006.
An open-ended London run
Referring to its top ten long-running achievement, Wicked’s Executive Producer Michael McCabe said:
“We are extremely proud to be joining such legendary shows as The Mousetrap, Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera as one of the 10 longest running productions in the West End. It is an incredible new milestone for Wicked and we greatly appreciate the continuing support of theatregoers.”
A record-breaking show
Having been dubbed as “thrillingly entertaining”, “wickedly good” and “one of the most popular West End musicals ever”, it comes as little surprise that Wicked has broken box office records and won five star reviews around the world.
Yes it’s certainly not just London that can’t get enough of Wicked. With nine productions running concurrently, the story of the Witches of Oz has already been seen more than 40 million people across the globe. After playing for a decade at Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre, Wicked’s original production still retains the honour awarded to it by the New York Times as being “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster.”
Wicked on tour until summer 2015
Whilst the musical will still run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, a new production of Wicked will tour the UK until the summer of 2015.
With music and lyrics by the multi Academy and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz and being directed by the two time Tony Award winner and Olivier Award nominee Joe Mantello, can you really afford to miss this record breaking magical musical, which gives the Witches of Oz the chance to tell their story?
