The hit rock Queen musical, We Will Rock You is now in its 11th year at the Dominion Theatre in London and the show may just be heading to Broadway according to Queen guitarist Brian May.
We Will Rock You, the long-running, London-based musical featuring over 30 of Queen’s greatest hits has recently announced it is heading to the United States as part of a world-wide stadium tour. Brian May has revealed on a blog post that the show may even go to Broadway in New York.
“We are also finally pressing the button on that USA We Will Rock You tour,” Brian the co-music director and Queen member wrote in a blog post earlier this month. “It will sit down in New York City for a while too!”
A previously planned US tour was cancelled in 2004 when the show went to Paris instead. There has been no formal announcement from the producers of We Will Rock You about Broadway dates but the US tour dates have been confirmed and will begin in the Autumn of 2013.
Now in its 11th year at London’s Dominion Theatre, We Will Rock You, was written by comedian Ben Elton with the songs written by Queen members Brian May, Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. Unusually all four band members contributed hit songs to the Queen repertoire.
The story is set three hundred years in the future, in a world where musical instruments are banned, songs are generated by computers, everyone thinks the same thoughts, dresses the same and is under the control of a global organisation ruled by a Killer Queen. The Bohemians are a band of renegade rebels who are seeking the source of rock ‘n’ roll and a leader. They find their leader in the unlikely form of teenage outcast Galileo Figaro and his Goth girlfriend, Scaramouche. Under pressure from the thought police led by Kashoggi the rebels flee their underground shelter and attempt to find the hidden musical instruments and resurrect rock ‘n’ roll. All rather silly, but all cleverly put together and a very funny comedy musical with the highlight being the music of Queen.
The musical includes Queen’s legendary songs; Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Under Pressure, We Are the Champions, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Another One Bites The Dust, Radio Ga Ga and of course We Will Rock You.
