Bat Out of Hell will be roaring into the London Coliseum next year

Jim Steinman’s new musical is based on Meat Loaf’s legendary and hugely influential album, Bat Out of Hell. The American composer and Grammy Award-winning record producer worked with Meat Loaf for years, producing the iconic Bat Out of Hell album. Bat Out of Hell was Steinman’s first collaboration with Meat Loaf.

Released in 1977, Bat Out of Hell the album has sold more than 50 million copies around the world. It is one of the best-selling albums in musical history. 15 years after the its release, Steinman and Meat Loaf returned to the album to produce Bat Out of Hell II.

Having worked on previously released songs to create a production of Neverland, a futuristic rework of Peter Pan in 1974, and having collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on Whistle Down the Wind, a musical in 1996, Steinman is no stranger to musical theatre.

Bat Out of Hell the musical traces Steinman’s storied collaboration with Meat Loaf. This fast-paced, rock n roll adventure follows the story of Strat, who has fallen in love with the daughter of the authoritarian Falco, in what’s been described as a “romantic adventure about rebellious youth and passionate love against a backdrop of a post-cataclysmic city.”

This new production is directed by the American Obie Award-winning director Jay Scheib.

Bat Out of Hell the Musical is set to run at the London Coliseum from 5 June to 22 July, 2017. The London Coliseum run will follow the musical’s run at the Manchester Opera House.
