It has been announced that the award-winning West End production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is in its fourth and final year at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London

Since opening in 2013, Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been one of the West End’s most successful musicals. Having been seen by more than 1.8 million people, the production has broken house records at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the production is currently one of three longest-running shows in the last 50 years at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, alongside 42nd Street and Miss Saigon.

A production of Roald Dahl’s much-loved story about the eccentric Willy Wonka and the adventures that unravel when he invites a group of children and their parents to spend the day at his incredible chocolate factory, is scheduled to open on Broadway in the 2016-2017 season.

Celebrating the 100th year since Roald Dahl’s birth

The musical will embark on a nationwide tour and celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the iconic children’s author.

Much of the current Charlie and the Chocolate Factory cast remains unchanged, with Jonathan Slinger continuing his celebrated performance as the eccentric Willy Wonka. Chris Grahamson will be joining the cast as Mr Bucket.

The popular West End production features innovative stagecraft, helping to bring the magical and timeless tale to life for a modern-day audience.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is at Theatre Royal Drury Lane until January 7, 2017.
