For one night only the ‘scholarly, insightful and highly entertaining’ No Turn Unstoned will visit the Duchess Theatre…
Dame Diana Rigg comes to the Duchess Theatre in October
If there’s one individual who’s in a position to tell stories of the haphazardness of the world of theatre, it’s Dame Diana Rigg.
The legendary British actress was propelled to fame in the 1960s when she played the charismatic and karate-kicking spy Emma Peel in The Avengers.
In the wake of an uncouth comment made by theatre critic John Simon about her infamous nude scene in Aberlard and Heloise, Diana Rigg was inspired to write No Turn Unstoned. This truly unique book involves the actress telling a history and anecdotes of life in the theatre.
From Ancient Greece to modern times
Dame Diana transfixes her audience by providing an entertaining reflection of some of the worse theatrical reviews spanning back over history. In this wide spectrum celebration of the actors who have survived following a slating in the press Dame Diana researched theatre criticism as far back as Ancient Greece. She also contacted many of her acquaintances in the industry to get first-hand accounts of their reactions to less than favourable reviews.
The first edition of this collection of dire historical reviews was published in 1982. However, it was not until the 1990s when a paperback edition was released and Dame Diana began touring university campuses throughout the UK, reading experts of the book that No Turn Unstoned was elevated to a cult-like status.
On Monday 20th October 2014 Diana Rigg’s No Turn Unstoned will be at the Duchess Theatre. This fascinating depiction of the less explored side of the theatre industry is coming to the West End direct from a sell-out season at the Edinburg Fringe Festival.
Following the Tony and Emmy Award winner’s entertaining recount of the most deplorable of theatre reviews, the audience will have the chance to ask the iconic actress questions.
