After months of speculation, guesswork and rumours, the waiting is over as the casting for stage adaptation of Bend It Like Beckham has been revealed…
Dew, Ancona and Samuels will play in the highly awaiting Bend It Like Beckham musical which will hit the West End this summer
Natalie Dew and Lauren Samuels will lead the cast, Dew playing ‘Jess’ and Samuels as ‘Jules’. Jamie Campbell Bower will play the girls’ coach ‘Joe’.
Natalie Dew is no stranger to the stage having starred in a number of high profile performances, including Rough Cat and The Internet is A Serious Business’ at the Royal Court.
Lauren Samuels also boasts West End credits, starring as Sandy in ‘Grease’ at the Piccadilly Theatre and Scaramouche in ‘We Will Rock You’ at the Dominion Theatre.
Bend It Like Beckham will be Jamie Cambell Bower’s West End stage debut. The actor has a number of film credits, including playing Gellert Grindwald in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and II’, amongst others.
Former EastEnders star Preeya Kalidas will play ‘Pinky’. Natasha Jayetileke will star as Mrs Bhamra and Tony Jayawardene as Mr Bhamra. They will be joined by Ronni Ancona as Paula – Jules’ Mum – and Jamal Andreas as Tony.
This highly awaited stage adaptation of the much-loved 2002 film will also star Daniel Bolton, Tom Millen, Jorell Coiffic-Kamall and Rakesh Boury as the Footballers, Raj Bajaj as Tettu, Lisa Bridge, Chloe Chambers, Michelle Bishop, Kirstie Skivington, Genesis Lynea and Danielle Young as ‘The Harriers’. Kayleigh McKnight will play Swing and Rekha Sawhney and Shahid Khan are the Indian Heritage Singers.
A talented creative team
Bend It Like Beckham the musical is directed by Gurinder Chadha. Chadha is joined by a talented creative team, including Aletta Collins for choreography, Nigel Lilley for musical direction, Katrina Lindsay for costume design, Miriam Buether for set design, Richard Brooker for sound and Neil Austin for Lighting.
Bend It Like Beckham’s plot is centred on the talented footballer, teenager Jess. Jess is facing the toughest decision of her life to date – give up a life of university, career and marriage that her parents expect, in favour of following in her hero David Beckham’s footsteps.
Bend It Like Beckham will open at the Phoenix Theatre on 24 June 2015.
