Expect to carry on giggling in London this year as the multi-talented and much-loved Jim Dale comes to the Vaudeville Theatre in Just Jim Dale
jim Dale to dazzle West End audiences once more
After a 20 year break from the West End when he starred as Fagin in Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver, Jim Dale is returning to London theatre this time in a one-man autobiographical show named Just Jim Dale.
Sharing stories, songs, tales about his incredible life and career, Jim Dale’s show enjoyed great success and acclaim in New York.
Jim Dale is one of Britain’s best-loved and long-standing actors. Born in 1935 in Northampton, the admired and multi-talented performer is most widely known in the UK for his numerous appearances in the Carry On films. In the US, one of Dale’s most acclaimed roles has been narrating the Harry Potter audiobook series, which were executed with such talent, he received two Grammy Awards.
A long and spectacular career
Dale’s career in the entertainment limelight began as a stand-up comedian. His comedy skills were polished during Dale’s stint in the army, in which he put together and performed in camp shows.
On being discharged from the army, Jim Dale pursued a career in comedy. He got a job performing a comedy part on a musical variety show and impressed the producers so much they gave him a singing role.
A Carry On legend
In 1963 Dale landed a small part in Carry On Cabby. Being lapped up by the audience, Dale was given a regular larger part in the Carry On films. Jim continued filming in what have proven to be amongst the most successful comedies of all time, until 1992.
On departing from the Carry On set, Dale returned to the stage, continuing the acclaimed name he’d made for himself on the stage during the 1970s. During this time Dale was a member of the National Theatre Company. The stage artist achieved Broadway success in a show called ‘Barnum’. His biggest stage performances were in Sir Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre.
In 1964 Jim Dale made his West End debut in a musical comedy in a revival of The Wayward Way. 2015 will see the multi-talented actor and singer take to the West End stage once more, performing at the Vaudeville Theatre.
Just Jim Dale will run at the Vaudeville Theatre from May 26 until June 20, 2015.
The star himself says he hopes his Carry On co-star Barbara Windsor will be part of the audience!
