After significant speculation, Motown the Musical really will be shaking its stuff and rocking audiences in the West End next year
Motown the Musical is coming to the West End
Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, the legendary Motown the Musical will be showing at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the spring 2016.
Motown the Musical traces the story of a unique movement of music which arrived in America in 1959 and transformed, not only music but American culture forever.
A musical game-changer
This moving show is focused on the story of Motown’s founder Berry Gordy and his incredible journey from being a featherweight boxer into a game-changing music mogul. Gordy was responsible for launching the careers of some of the most prominent names in the history of music, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Martin Gaye, and many more.
This captivating musical show tells the poignant story how the Motown family fought against the odds and introduced a different musical sound that broke down cultural and racial boundaries and changed America forever.
The musical features some of the classic Motown songs and a book by the Motown founder himself, Berry Gordy.
A real joy ride!
On Broadway, Motown the Musical has been a phenomenal hit. It has enjoyed a string of great reviews, cited as “A joy ride! Something close to rapture spreads through the audience” and “setting the theatre on fire”.
And, as the Daily Mail writes:
“Gordy might make himself less of a god in the London iteration. But don’t bet on it.”
