It has been confirmed that the highly-popular West End musical The Commitments will close on November 1, 2015
The hugely enjoyable show is reaching the end of its West End run
Since it opened in London in October 2013, the stage-adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s iconic novel, The Commitments, has been a great success, playing more than 1000 shows.
Featuring more than 20 soul classics
The musical is directed by Jamie Lloyd and features the classic songs that have become synonymous with the story, belting out over 20 soul classics from the film, including “Try A Little Tenderness, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, and, of course, the legendary “Mustang Sally”.
Following the life of Jimmy Rabbitte, who aspires to manage the greatest band in the world and bring soul music to the people of Dublin, The Commitments is an aspirational story that gives us encouragement and hope.
In 1991 Roddy Doyle’s best-selling novel was made into a film, directed by Alan Parker. The film won the BAFTA Award for Best Film, Best Director, Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
A 2017 UK and Ireland Tour
Following its run on the West End, The Commitments will embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2017.
Talking about the closing of the show at the Palace Theatre on the West End, producer Phil McIntyre said:
“We’ve had a great run at the Palace Theatre and we now look forward to bringing the people’s musical to people across the UK and Ireland with our 2017 tour.”
The Commitments is showing at the Palace Theatre on the West End until Sunday 1 November 2015.
