An Inspector Calls is coming to the Playhouse Theatre this November
It’s described as the theatrical event of its generation and has won more awards than any other production in history, now Stephen Daldry is returning to the West End to re-direct his masterpiece at the Playhouse Theatre.
Written by English dramatist J B Priestley and first performed in 1945 in the Soviet Union and in 1946 in Britain, An Inspector Calls is widely considered one of the classic pieces of mid-twentieth century theatre.
This riveting drama is centred on the prosperous, middle-class Birling family, who live in a large home in a fictitious industrial city in the northern Midlands known as Brumley.
One evening an inspector named Boole visits the family to ask about the suicide of a young working-class woman. As Inspector Boole carries out his investigations, acts of exploitation and social ruin are questioned, as the play provides a scathing critique of the class system, social injustice and the hypocrisies of Victorian and Edwardian England.
The Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry successfully revived An Inspector Calls for the National Theatre in 1992 and toured the UK with the play in 2011 and 2012.
Daldry is now returning his ‘must see’ masterpiece for a new generation of theatregoers, at the Playhouse Theatre.
Seen by more than four million people around the world, this incredible National Theatre presentation has spawned a myriad of five star reviews.

An Inspector Calls is showing at the Playhouse Theatre in London from Friday November 4, 2016 until Saturday February 4, 2017. The show runs for one hour 45 minutes.
