Brandon Victor Dixon to make a West End debut

John Kander and Fred Ebb’s award-winning musical the Scottsboro Boys has enjoyed a sell-out run at the Young Vic Theatre. It has been announced that Brandon Victor Dixon, who originated the role of Haywood Patterson in the first US production of The Scottsboro Boys, will once again play leading role.

West End debut

The American stage actor is currently starring as Berry Gordy in Motown the Musical on Broadway. His leading role in The Scottsboro Boys will be Brandon Victor Dixon’s debut performance at the West End.

The American cast members who played knockout performances at The Young Vic will play alongside Dixon at the Garrick Theatre. The Olivier Award nominated Colman Domingo will play Mr Bones, James T Lane as Ozie Powell and Forrest McClendon as Mr Tambo. Reprising his role as The Interlocutor, English actor Julian Glover will also take to The Garrick’s stage.

A smash hit show

This incredibly stimulating musical has been acclaimed on both Broadway and in London. Hailed as a modern classic The Scottsboro Boys has been nominated for 12 Tony Awards and 6 Olivier Awards, winning the Critics’ Circle Best Musical in 2013.

A landmark show of injustice

The Scottsboro Boys relives a compelling true story of injustice. The plot focuses on nine young black men who travelled by train through Scottsboro, Alabama in the 1930s in search of a new life. When the youngsters were falsely accused of a dreadful crime, their fate divided the American nation. What’s been described as an “extraordinary piece of theatre”, the show unravels the emotional journey of the young men desperately trying to prove their innocence.

The Scottsboro Boys will play at the Garrick Theatre from Saturday 4 October 2014. A press night will take place on Monday 20 October.
