Lindsay Lohan to play Karen in Speed the Plow 

Speed the Plow is written by American playwright David Mamet. Mamet has won a Pulitzer Prize and received Tony nominations for both Speed the Plow and Glengarry Glen Ross. Speed the Plow is a dramatically thrilling modern classic which is laden with David Mamet’s characteristic humour.  

Lindsay Lohan takes to the stage

Much to the excitement of the British tabloids, Lindsay Lohan has been living in London for the past few weeks where she has started rehearsals for her West End debut.

The Hollywood star of Mean Girls will play Karen, a temporary secretary who manages to persuade film producer Bobby to ditch a sure-fire blockbuster hit is favour of what has been described as a ‘box office prison.’

The part of Karen was originally played by Madonna in New York in 1988.

The scandal-prone, multi-award-winning actress’ films include Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, Herbie: Fully Loaded, The Parent Trap, Bobby and A Prairie Home Companion. Lohan has also starred as Elizabeth Taylor in the biographical TV film Liz and Dick and has appeared in the TV series Ugly Betty.

Lohan is said to be extremely excited by playing Karen and starring on the West End stage. When rehearsals began, the American actress posted a picture oh herself on Instagram outside the theatre’s stage door together with the caption:

“At work! First day… Read through.”

Directed by Lindsay Posner

Speed the Plow is directed by Lindsay Posner, a so-called David Mamet acolyte. Posner has directed a string of highly acclaimed plays, including Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Oleanna, American Buffalo and A Life in the Theatre.
