It has been confirmed that the much-loved Elf! The Musical is coming to the West End this Christmas, showing at the Dominion Theatre for a limited ten-week run
Buddy: Santa’s not-so-little helper
The stage musical is based on the adored 2003 film about one of Santa’s hapless helpers played by Will Ferrell.
A smash-hit on Broadway
Elf! The Musical premiered on Broadway in 2010. On Broadway this hilarious musical broke records, smashing box office figures three times and grossing more than a million dollars in one week. Behind only The Lion King and Wicked, the musical became the third best-grossing show in the Thanksgiving weekend of 2010.
In 2014 Elf! The Musical was staged in Dublin and Plymouth. It has a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, direction and choreography by Morgan Young and songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin. The musical will feature costumes and set design by Olivier Award winner Tim Lutkin.
A hopeless toymaker!
Elf! The Musical, like the film, is centred on Buddy, an orphan who sneaked into one of Santa’s sacks when he was very young and ended up being raised as an elf in the North Pole.
Being considerably larger than the other elves and lacking their nimbleness and dexterity in toy making, Buddy suspects he is not the same as the elves he grew up with, referring to himself as a “cotton-headed ninny-muggins.”
With Santa’s permission, Buddy heads for New York to seek the truth, find his real identity and help New Yorkers rediscover the true meaning of Christmas.
This loveable family Christmas show is playing at the Dominion Theatre from 24 October 2015 until 2 January 2016.
