Griff Rhys Jones is returning to the West End, stepping into the penny-pinching shoes of Harpagon, in the classic comedy, The Miser

Sean Foley and Phil Porter bring an hilarious new adaptation of French playwright Moliere’s great comedy The Miser to the Garrick Theatre in 2017.
It has been announced that the much-loved actor, comedian and television personality, Griff Rhys Jones is to take the lead role in a new West End production of the classic comedy, The Miser.
The Miser was first performed in Paris in 1668. The protagonist is Harpagon, a man so obsessed with his fortune and keeping hold of it, he is paranoid all and sundry are out to fleece him of his wealth.
So motivated by money is Harpagon, that he aspires to match his children with wealthy partners. As the fast-moving story unfolds and true feelings surface, will Harpagon allow his children to follow their hearts, or will his obsession with money prevail and sacrifice relationships?
This will be the first time Griff Rhys Jones will have appeared on a West End stage for five years. The actor and writer is best known for his hilarious TV performances, particularly with his long-standing partnership with Mel Smith.
Griff is a familiar face on the stage, having played as Fagin in Oliver!, and appeared in An Absolute Turkey and Charley’s Aunt.
Further casting for The Miser is to be announced.
The Miser is showing at the Garrick Theatre from 1 March, 2017 until 10 June, 2017. The play includes one 20-minute interval.
