Tickets for the West End revival of American Buffalo have just got hotter with the announcement that John Goodman and Tom Sturridge will be joining the highly anticipated David Mamet production

John Goodman to play alongside Damian Lewis and Tom Sturridge at the Wyndham Theatre

The production of the compelling 1975 play is directed by Sheffield Theatres’ artistic director Daniel Evans.

Goodman and Sturridge will play alongside the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Damian Lewis.

Goodman’s West End debut

The Roseanna and Coen Brothers star John Goodman will be making his West End debut playing small time crook Don Dubrow.

In a statement, Goodman said:

“I’m delighted to be returning to the stage… in such a fantastic project with two brilliant British actors of whom I’ve admired for some time.”

A ‘dangerous and delicate’ play

Tom Sturridge’s stage credits have been met with much acclaim, having been nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway performance in Orphans and receiving Critics Circle Best Newcomer for his role in Simon Stephens’ Punk Rock.

Equally as thrilled to be part of the highly awaited West End revival of American Buffalo, Sturridge said:

“It’s a deep privilege to be offered the chance to do this play with Damian and John under Daniel’s direction. I think the play is dangerous and delicate, funny and frightening. American Buffalo is special.”

Mamet’s play has been performed on Broadway three times. Centred on three small-time crooks, played by Lewis, Goodman and Sturridge, who plan one big-time heist that transcends into a series of errors, the play tackles the fickle nature honour amongst thieves.

American Buffalo runs at the Wyndham Theatre from 16 April to 27 June 2015.
