Being one of the most theatrical, exaggerated and wonderfully dramatic spots in the UK, Europe and possibly the world, there’s nothing like a good old rumour to rouse excitement in the West End. The latest rumour to circulate London’s theatreland – The Bodyguard is transferring to the Aldwych Theatre
Rumour or reality? Will The Bodyguard move to the Aldwych Theatre?
If the rumour transpires to reality The Bodyguard will transfer from its current home at the Adelphi Theatre in exchange for the Aldwych. The Bodyguard would begin at the Aldwych Theatre when the productions of Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies end there.
Reasons to why a transfer might take place remain uncertain – after all, it’s merely unconfirmed hearsay. What however is more certain is that The Bodyguard’s running at the Adelphi has bagged a string of fantastic reviews.
“By no stretch of the imagination is The Bodyguard a great musical,” writes The Telegraph.
While the Daily Mail referred to The Bodyguard musical as:
“The runaway gold-plated West End hit.”
Being a musical adaptation of the hugely successful 1992 film, which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, the compelling romantic thriller had all the hallmarks of being a West End hit. The award-winning musical has certainly succeeded in wowing audiences at the Adelphi Theatre.
The Bodyguard musical is certainly no stranger to being in the media spotlight. Just last week Shows In London shared the exciting news that Alexandra Burke is joining the hit West End musical. From 2 June 2014 the sensational singer will join the cast, taking over from Beverley Knight playing the leading role of Rachel Marron.
It’s just a rumour but watch this space, if The Bodyguard does transfer to the Aldwych Theatre, remember where you heard it first!
