It’s going to be a purrrfect year for Cats fans, as the show extends its run at the London Palladium to April 2015 and Kerry Ellis steps into Grizabella’s paws…

Audiences will have the chance to see Cats until April 2015

Due to extraordinary public demand, it has been confirmed that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical Cats will now be playing at the London Palladium until 25 April 2015.

The extended run in the West End will follow a short break in Cats performances from 2 – 17 March 2015.

Kerry Ellis to play Grizabella

What’s more, West End superstar Kerry Ellis will join the cast taking over from Nicole Scherzinger as the loveable “Glamour Cat” Grizabella. Scherzinger will continue playing Grizabella until February 7, 2015 and Ellis will take over from February 9.

Making her West End debut in the 2001 revival of My Fair Lady and having more recently enthralled audiences playing Elphaba in Wicked, Ms Ellis has become of the most recognisable faces on the West End stage.

A long-running West End hit

Being one of the West End’s and Broadway’s longest-running shows, Cats has been seen by a phenomenal 55 million people worldwide and has been played in more than 300 cites.

Given its intense popularity and remarkable longevity, Cats’ plot needs little introduction.

Based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, this enchanting musical tells the magical story of a tribe of cats known as the Jellicles. On a special night for cats referred to as ‘The Jellicle Choice’ the tribe decide which cat will rise to the ‘Heaviside Layer’ and return as a new life. It is at the Jellicle Ball where the wise cat leader Old Deuteronomy announces which member of the tribe will be reborn.

When Cats returned to the West End in December 2014 it reunited its original creative team, including Andrew Lloyd Webber as composer, Director Trevor Nunn, Gillian Lynne as Associate Director and Choreographer and Designer John Napier.

With a fabulous musical set, inspiring stage designs, incredible costumes and stunning choreography, it is hardly surprising that the legendary Cats musical has had little choice other than to extend its run at the London Palladium.
