The West End award-winning musical Rock of Ages makes its appearance on the big screen this week with a star studded cast featuring the likes of Russel Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Mary J.Blige and most notably Tom Cruise.

Set in LA’s Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages tells a love story: Drew, a boy from Detroit (Diego Boneta) falls in love with Sherrie (Julianne Hough) as they both chase their dreams of making it big in the local rock scene. Meanwhile, as Sherrie struggles financially in the rock n’ roll culture, audacious rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) comes along and sweeps her off her feet…as they did in the 80s!

Director Adam Shankman cast Tom Cruise as the rockstar following the realisation that Cruise “actually has a fantastic voice” after hearing him on the first go around of his first voice lesson. Fans of the action star of the Mission Impossible series will be surprised to see Cruise in this new role – lending his vocals to numerous tracks in the film including several solo performances.

Those who enjoy the likes of Hairspray or the Rock of Ages show in the West End are sure to enjoy the Rock of Ages movie with its lively feel and vibrant cast.
