Transferring from Broadway where it’s caused quite a stir, Robert Askins’ dark comedy about a possessed sock puppet comes to the West End in 2016
Janie Dee and Neil Pearson to star in the Hand To God at the Vaudeville Theatre
Set in a small town in Texas, Hand To God follows the story of a shy teenager named Jason who participates in a puppet pageant. The equilibrium of the town is strongly disrupted when Jason’s sock puppet ‘Tyrone’ becomes possessed and is plagued by coarse vulgarity, an incredibly foul mouth and alarming violence.
This provocative comedy has generated a whirl of excitement on Broadway, described as “Wickedly funny” by the New York Times and by the New Yorker as being “Kinda ‘Sesame St’ meets ‘The Exorcist’.
The darkly stimulating play received five Tony nominations on Broadway, including Best New Play.
Moritz von Stuelpnagel directs the play, which stars Janie Dee, Neil Pearson, Harry Melling, Jemima Rooper and Kevin Mains.
Billed as a “heart-breaking and hilarious new comedy,” you can watch what’s regarded as the most exciting new play to come out of America this year at the Vaudeville Theatre.
Hand to God is playing at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre from Friday 5 February 2016 until Saturday 11 June 2016. The show runs for two hours and may not be suitable for those aged under the age of 15.
